Community Venues
Could you be part of the solution to help to eradicate period poverty in Bristol?

Who can apply to be part of the scheme?

Any community venue e.g. community centres, places of worship, leisure centres, youth clubs, sports clubs, children’s centres. Priority will be given to those in deprived areas.

How can we apply?

If you’re interested in joining, just email us and we’ll set you up: periodfriendlyplaces@gmail.com

Does it cost?

No, community venues can take part in the scheme for free. We ask our corporate business partners to contribute a donation for being part of the scheme.

Where should we keep the box?

Boxes should be kept in a visible, easily accessible place. For many venues this can mean an accessible toilet, or behind the desk in reception if this is more convenient. Some venues redistribute the products between several toilets.

Posters can be displayed in the toilets, behind the desk in reception and on the noticeboard in the waiting areas to let people know where they can access the product. The more that are visible the better; it’s important to let people know the scheme is in place so they know they can take products for free.

Some venues collect products from people as well, and some become self-sufficient by doing this.

What are the benefits?

In 2019, Bristol had the third highest rates of period poverty across England, Scotland, and Wales: more than two in five women and girls in Bristol, 41.2% have been affected by an inability to afford menstrual products, compared to a national average is 27%, leading to many missing school or work and impacting on health and well-being.

Having a free, accessible store of products is something every venue can do, at no extra cost or time and will meet venues criteria for supporting the community.
