Community Venues
Could you be part of the solution to help to eradicate period poverty in Bristol?

Community venues are the beneficiaries of our mission and where free period products are available for those who need them most.

Who can apply to be part of the scheme?

Any community venue in Bristol and the surrounding area e.g. community centres, places of worship, leisure centres, youth clubs, sports clubs, libraries etc. We try to prioritise those in deprived areas.

You can find all the venues we are currently supplying here.

How can we apply?

If you’re interested in joining, we’d love to help. Just email us at periodfriendlyplaces@gmail.com and we’ll go from there.

Does it cost?

No, community venues can take part in the scheme for free.

Where should we keep the box of free period products?

Boxes should be kept in a visible, easily accessible place. For many venues this can mean an accessible toilet, bathrooms or behind the desk in reception if this is more convenient. Some venues redistribute the products between individual toilet cubicles.

Posters can be displayed in the bathrooms, toilet cubicles, behind the desk in reception and in waiting areas to let people know where they can access the products.

The more that are visible the better - it’s important to let people know the scheme is in place so they know they can access products for free.

Some venues collect products from people as well by having a donation bin, and some become self-sufficient by doing this.

What are the benefits?

You will be helping to end period poverty and our mission for Bristol to become a city of period dignity.

Having a free, accessible store of products is something every venue can do, at no extra cost or time and will meet venues criteria for supporting the community and providing products for people who need them most.

In 2019, Bristol had the third highest rates of period poverty across England, Scotland, and Wales: more than two in five women and girls in Bristol, 41.2% have been affected by an inability to afford menstrual products, compared to a national average is 27%, leading to many missing school or work and impacting on health and well-being.
